Ravel - Daphnis et Chloé / Monteux / LSO - White Hot StamperBoth sides here are big, with the space and depth of the wonderful Kingsway Hall that the LSO perform in. John Culshaw produced the album, which surely accounts for the huge size and space, not to mention quality, of the recording. The sound is dynamic and tonally correct throughout. This vintage London pressing has the kind of Tubey Magical Midrange that modern records can barely BEGIN to reproduce. Folks, that sound is gone and it sure isn't showing

The Sheffield is even more dryly recorded than their other albums

The recording has some of that tinny 60s pop production sound -- too much upper midrange

We consider this Jimmy Smith album his Masterpiece

This copy is super spacious

Some of them are aggressive

but it certainly ain’t one of their best either

but only the right pressing will prove that

-- you will have a very hard time finding a better sounding recording of it than this

and this song can be an exceptionally good example of both when you're lucky enough to have the right pressing playing
