The pierced shield backs with round panels painted with armorial, above the solid compass seats of unusual form, raised on turned tapering front legs and splayed back supports. One chair is inscribed 'Johnson' in chalk to the underside of the seat. The seats and legs of these hall chairs closely relate to a pair sold by Christie's, 16 December 2010, Lot 3. Fantastic
