Description
EF Payne Model 198 Fly Rod 7'6" 3/2 #4/5A nice EF Payne model 198 bamboo fly rod, 7'6", 3 piece, 2 tip, and built for a #5 line. Dry fly action. Weighs 3. 8 ounces. A very high quality refinished rod that is a late 1940's or early 1950's vintage (I'm told that the refinish was done by Don Schroeder). Brown wraps with yellow edges with a band of purple at the ferrules and keeper. Agate stripping guide and black HSS snake guides. The ferrules are oxidized and re pinned and are nice and tight.
The original tip is dead straight
and the classic butternut reel seat
He also made bamboo rod building supplies and reels at one time
This reel is interchangeable with the Hardy Marquis series frame and spool
