Forrest Patent Drag Reel 4 1/8"A nice Forrest of Kelso patent drag salmon winch, 4 1 4" diameter with 1 5 8" spool width. Excellent overall condition with a fine patina throughout and free of any major defects. One side of the foot has been chopped slightly, but that's about it. The reel turns nicely and makes a nice loud click. "Forrests Patent Drag" is lightly engraved in the winding plate opposite the ivorine handle. A nice early example of a classic salmon winch.

When it recently arrived at the shop I instantly remembered having seen Tom fishing with it in and around Music Mountain

Smooth brass foot

and the cap and ring are oxidized black

Comes with its original reel pouch

An excellent and versatile trout rod

The rod is from Brian's "Jackson Series" -- "At home on small to medium tail water fisheries"

Only 99 were made and each is sequentially numbered

and the inside of the box is very clean for a box of this age

The downlocking screwlock is nickel silver and the two pocket bands are fully engraved as well as the bottom cap

The reel has a strong click and fully functional adjustable pin-in detent drag under the handle (this feature was replaced circa 1907 with the seven detent arrowhead pointer)

This was their "Goldstar" model
