Description
An unusual miniature knife. 18th century.A rare, mini folding knife made of a dark wood and inlaid decoratively with pewter. The end has a decorative turned finial. The steel blade is unmarked. c1770. The two rivets holding the blade in place are mounted with brass covers typical of 18th century etui tools. There isn't a spring but the blade does stop when it lines up with the handle. 6. 5cm long closed 11cm long open. In excellent condition the blade isn't damaged and the inlay is intact.
It has just two double rows of tiny indents for decoration
The piece measures 5 x 3
An oversized mahogany snuff box in the shape of a boot complete with brass stud 'boot buttons'
The pastes are various sizes and all appear to be original
25 x 4 inches
All five would measure 12cm together
It is in very good condition with only the occasional tiny bit of enamel lacking
The base has a handwritten inscription- Miss Jane Body
A little silver thimble with a facet cut rim and 'wriggle work' engraving
The box measures 13
The lid unscrew to reveal the inner spindle
It is one of a group of novelty needle packet boxes produced by William Avery of Redditch in the 19th century
