Bill Ballan Salmon Reel 3 1/4" [SALE PENDING]A scarce Bill Ballan Salmon Reel, 3 1 4" diameter and set up for LHW. This reel has a very wide spool, with the inside spool measuring 1 1 4" while the inside frame dimension measures almost 1 1 1 2". I am not sure that I have seen this model before. The internal brake system is an imitation of the Bogdan double brake design, and the back plate has a button that releases it from the frame, similar to that used by Joe Saraciones' classic American

The cap and ring retain little of the original oxidation

Comes in a replacement tube

A very rare model in very nice original condition

The story goes that Halstead had a lot of customers who fished the big Delaware and needed a rod to toss lots of line

5 1/2" medium cigar grip that has been replaced (Clapp and Treat always had a thin band of lignum vitae wood in the middle of the grip)

Excellent used condition

The seat and spacer remain in excellent condition with only light wear to the bluing

The grip is extra long at 6" (12 corks) and shaped to a medium cigar
