Thomas and Thomas Montana Bamboo Fly Rod 8'6" 3/2 #6A nice Thomas and Thomas Montana model bamboo fly rod, 8'6", 3 piece, 2 tip, and built for a #6 line. Serial #5722 and the rod weighs 6. 4 ounces on my scale. Very pleasing action, a quicker DF than many of the Montana models that I have handled. I would consider this rod mint but for the cosmetic casting cracks at the ferrule wraps. The rod is fully engraved on all of the metal surfaces. The cane is tiger stripe flamed and done in a three up node
Comes in black nylon pouch with red piping
presumably because it had deteriorated (often the case with these)
Handle is nicely crazed and spins freely
The reverse half wells grip measures 5 1/2" in length with a squared nose
screws--including cap screw for winding arm
Serial number E55754 made in 1942
and so is the frame
For sale here is a Redington Vapen 10' 8-weight fly rod
The rod was restored at some time by a very competent practitioner
